What is Sporting Schools? Sporting Schools is a $320 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children’s participation in sport, and to connect children with community sport. Sporting Schools will fund sporting activities, including volleyball in more than 5,700 schools and provide access to a range of trained community coaches.
School Volley, delivered by Spikezone, available for secondary school students ages 12 - 14, is an ideal fit as it is a dynamic sport that can be played on any surface, anywhere and anytime. The aim of the program is to provide an opportunity for all participants to experience and enjoy the game of volleyball, while offering a targeted approach for women and girls.

Representative schools volleyball made a humble beginning during the year of 1973. In that year an open aged, interstate exchange, between Queensland and New South Wales girls teams was conducted. The boys teams, were not as fortunate, as they had to wait until 1974 before the Departments of Education from each State granted approval for their exchange.

Sporting Schools hits the mark for program users. Sport Australia engaged ORIMA Research to undertake an independent national evaluation of the Australian Government’s Sporting Schools program during 2016 - to determine the extent to which the program has achieved its intended aims and objectives.
