A volleyball spike or attack is the strategy used to send the ball over the net to the opponent in such a manner that ball is not returnable. The spike is performed by moving the arm in a way such that you angle the ball to land on the ground of your opponent's side of the court. Usually a spike is hit with great force at a downward angle.
Volleyball Spikes with Finesse. A volleyball approach that involves a one leg take-off similar to a basketball lay up. An individual attack directed across the net at an angle from one side (left side) of the court to the other side (right side) of the court. This is also referred to as hitting angle .

The average height of male volleyball spikers in international competitions is around 197cm. If you plan to play for a national team or at elite levels, 175cm is indeed short. However, that does not mean that you can’t be a spiker with that height. There is the example of Fran Ruiz who is 178cm and is a wing spiker in the national team of Spain.

To spike a volleyball, position yourself behind the 10-foot line and watch the setter so you can move quickly when the ball comes over the net. Make sure to be in the correct stance, facing the ball with knees bent at a 30 degree angle toward the net.
